It may occur that it will be just because of Premier Gyurcsány that the organization of the European Swimming Championship fails in 2006 in Budapest. The Prime Minister decided when he was Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs that instead of the original site of the championship in Lágymányos the building complex housing the championship should be built on Margaret Island, one of the most precious, protected parks of Hungary. If the plan is executed, the complex will be erected in the neighbourhood of Alfréd Hajós swimming pool, after liquidating two and a half hectares of greens and 68 old trees. A well of the water works should be also buried though this well provides daily 16 thousand people with drinking water of excellent quality. Several famous people protest against this but the authorities bring decisions which overwrite their former regulations, too.
