According to the unofficial final result in the second round of the by-election in Szécsény Andor Nagy (Fidesz), candidate for Parliament has won with an overwhelming majority of almost 70 pc. The second was Ervin Borenszki, common candidate of the Hungarian Socialists and Free Democrats. The other by-election in Sopron, however, has been closed without a result because the participation was only 24,2 pc of all voters. According to preliminary results 76 pc of the votes went for Mátyás Firtl (Fidesz). This may be due to the fact that László Kránitz, candidate of the Socialists backed out suspected of electoral cheating though he explained his action with the rudeness of the campaign. The by-elections took place because two MPs of Fidesz, József Szájer and László Surján, work as MPs of the European Parliament.
