It seems the Hungarian Foreign Ministry has not reckoned with the victory of Victor Yushchenko even after the second round and according to an internal memorandum dated on November 23 they foresaw a scenario acceptable for the European Union, too, if Victor Yanukovich becomes the President of the Ukraine. The memo signed by Iván Udvardi, political director states that this might serve the political compromise between government and opposition. This standpoint had been reflected earlier in supporting uncritically István Gajdos, an MP of Sub-Carpathia who has been regarded in Hungary as a national security risk.
