There are no exact data yet about the expenses of the programmes of May 1. Government spokesperson Boglár László said the Prime Minister’s Office had given HUF 70 million for the programmes in Budapest and HUF 220 millions for the ones in the country. This adds up to HUF 290 million but the magyarorszag.hu government portal says HUF 263 million has been given by the Prime Minister’s Office to celebrate the Hungarian accession to EU on May 1 last year. There have been 67 bids for the tender to decorate the bridges of the Danube for this occasion, eight of the proposals were remunareted by HUF 2,8 million. The idea of a ’party bridge’ was worth of HUF 200 000 while another to decorate Elizabeth bridge with the colours of the European Union was awarded HUF 400 000. The tender had been written out for HUF 3,5 million, the rest was used for the realization of the ideas.
