The metallurgic factory in Diósgyőr will close down for good and 1200 workers will be given the sack. The responsibility of the decision has been disclaimed by the Ministry of Labour and by the state and private banks, too. The working conditions of the steel- works (BNA Ltd) have ceased to exist. The registered unemployment rate in the Borsod region is 19,6 pc and within a month the number of people receiving regular social allowance has increased by 2000. The steel- works did not receive the requested loans though steel industry has been developing and it has good markets. The Hungarian Development Bank would not support the factory while the State Privatization and Property Management Company said the steel-works did not belong to their portfolio. CIB Bank said they would not finance the factory because the loss-making production did not guarantee the repayment of the loans.
