After the meeting the Prime Minister said Hungary had only one valid candidate for the EU commissioner’s post and that was László Kovács. The designated commissioner did not exclude the possibility of changes but as he put it he was carrying on the preperation for his post as commissioner of energy affairs though he also implied he would retain the post of Foreign Minister until the final decision.
Yesterday the EU integration parliamentary committee supported with a majority of votes Ferenc Somogyi, candidate for the post of Foreign Minister. Mr Somogyi during his hearing of two and a half hours did not give a direct answer to most of the questions of the MPs in opposition and several times evaded them saying they did not belong to his field.
