VICTIMS FROM CHILDREN HANGING AROUND

Stray youngsters are often lured abroad.

Last year there were almost eight thousand addministrative procedures because of children who disappeared in Hungary. 95-97 pc of them are found at last but according to police statistics 3-5 pc of them become a victim of crime. In Hungary, contrary to the practice in Europe, there is not any NGO which could investigate in such cases though experts claim that even in Hungary there is child trafficking now. According to UNICEF on the market of child prostitution Hungary has partly the role of transit country, but partly it is the destination of the child trade. Girls come from the Ukraine, boys from Romania. Stray children are often lured abroad but most of them end in brothels. The victims are most often children who escape from state institutions while children living in families often leave their home after 15 years of age and frequently even their disappearance is not reported to the authorities.
