The ’man of actions’, Mayor Demszky has recognized his impotence and has fallen both in a professional and in a political way. Now they plan to detach eight outer districts from the city of Budapest on the Pest side though for this the law of self-government should be amended which needs a two-third majority of ’yes’ votes but this fact does not trouble the Free Democrats.
The capital has been devastated and burdened by debt during the past 15 years and the Free Democrats want to get rid of the problems of the ’backyards’ of Budapest. It is interesting that half a century ago it was the Communists who forced the union of the present districts of Budapest but the inherited sociological problems cannot be tackled by the coalition of the left-wing succession parties.
