Miklós Bauer had been working for Mátyás Eörsi MP’S (Free Democrat) lawyer’s office. The announcement has been published in the bulletin of the chamber of lawyers called Pesti ügyvéd. János Bánáti, chairman of the Budapest Chamber of Lawyers said a resignation needed not any explanation, most people gave up membership due to their age when they stop working as lawyers. Bauer’s membership has been often criticized but the lawyer was working as a company solicitor at the change of regime so he became a member of the Law Society automatically. Miklós Bauer after the war took part in the criminal process of István Ries, former Social Democrat Minister of Justice. The minister was beaten to death by ÁVH policemen using chairlegs. Bauer was nicknamed ’manicurist’ as he was said to be an expert of torturing people by tearing off the nails of prisoners. During the Orbán government there was an examination started in the case as some people compared Bauer’s activities to those of Mengele who probably could not remain a member of the Chamber of Doctors after the war. The constitutional experts, however, with László Sólyom among them, claimed that Mr Bauer could not be expelled from the Law Society retroactively.
