MEDICAL TRAINING: HUNGARIANS IN MINORITY

In the greatest Hungarian university of medicine, in Semmelweis University, Budapest, there are about 350 first- year foreign students while the number of Hungarian ones are below 280.

Prof. Tivadar Tulassay, Rector said this did not hinder the training of Hungarian doctors as they admitted foreign students only in a number which was permitted by the capacity of the university. The professors are not overburdened, the rector claims, and the foreign students pay tution fees which help the training of would-be Hungarian doctors. Mainly students from Germany have arrived, the fee is about an annual 10 000 euros. There are courses in English and German languages. There is an increasing lack of doctors in Hungary but there is a great difference among regions.
