The aggravation is supported by István Hegedűs, chairman of the Association of Divorced Fathers, too. He said to Magyar Nemzet they had been supporting the amendment of the penal code for a long time. The bill has been prepared by several ministries. According to Hegedűs the rights of separated or divorced fathers have been violated several times as the children most of the time remain with their mothers who prevent them from being visited by their fathers in spite of the verdict of the court. In such cases not only the law is violated but children suffer a lot by this treatment.
Károly Gáspár, department head of the Ministry of Youth, Family and Social Affairs said imprisonment was regarded as the last resort to restore visitation rights. 1600 such cases have been examined by the Ministry and there emerged only in 50 cases the possibility of imprisonment. Another point of the amendment would contain the option that the verdict of the court should prescribe a common parental responsibility which means that both parents would have to decide together in questions vital to their children.
