TOO EXPENSIVE M7 MOTORWAY – 20 KM FOR HUF 65 BILLION

Yesterday the section of the M7 motorway was opened between Balatonszárszó and Ordacsehi. The section is twenty kilometers long and it cost HUF 65 billion - this is the most expensive motorway construction in Hungary even on a European scale.

The Ministry of Transport will probably set up a special committee to supervise the technology and the costs of the investment. The construction works started in the spring of 2003. On the inauguration ceremony János Kóka, Minister of Economy said in this government cycle they would open 511 km motorway for the traffic. The motorway bypasses the settlements at Lake Balaton. Jenő Manninger MP (Fidesz) has criticized the investment which will increase the state budget deficit and said the length of the new motorways could be 350-370 km at best.
