The party is very satisfied with the campaign because the popularity of the Socialists has approached that of Fidesz and the members of the party regained their optimism concerning the outcome of the parliamentary election in 2006. They want to dominate the public speech by Premier Gyurcsány’s frequent appearances in the media and by popularizing the programme of ’one hundred steps’. To maintain this activity it is necessary to spend much money and to do the utmost until April next year. The building out of the data base for automatic phone messages will cost about HUF 30 million while the personal letters sent out by Premier Gyurcsány and party chairman Hiller will cost about HUF 40 million.
The giant posters, leaflets, announcements, and free music CDs in three magazines must have been very expensive, too. The closing event of the campaign will be held in the Budapest Sport Arena on October 16, they expect some 12 000 people to come in an organized way by special trains and buses. In the headquarters of the Socialist Party there is a plan how to involve Viktor Orbán in the daily fights in the course of the political struggle because they think it will be decisive if Premier Gyurcsány or the chairman of Fidesz wins the favour and sympathy of the voters though some experts claim the frequency of Premier Gyurcsány’s appearance in the media does not automatically increase his popularity. The survey of Vision Consulting says the Prime Minister in September has appeared three times more frequently in leading news than Viktor Orbán.
