In fact just the opposite of Bárándy’s announcement is true. While the crosses set up by the initiative of Jobbik, a new party of the Christian conservative right have been almost everywhere consecrated or blessed by priests and pastors of the historical Christian churches, MAZSIHISZ does not support the setting up of menoras for the coming Chanukah organized by the Simon Mechon Foundation of Salamon Berkowitz, Traubi drinks manufacturer.
Péter Bárándy in Nap-kelte, a morning programme of the public television said: ’Behind one of the actions there stands the appropriate church, behind the other one there is not. For me behind the cross, so to speak, the blessing of the church is missing’. András Heisler, chairman of MAZSIHISZ said to Magyar Nemzet his organization did not support Berkowitz’s action in any form and Salamon Berkowitz did not ask or received a permission from MAZSIHISZ to do that in public places though every Jewish man could light the candles for this family feast.
