Autumn barley is already harvested in Veszprém county and farmers expect an average crop of 4-4,5 ton/hectare but wheat harvest must wait one or two weeks. Experts are not certain about the quality of the crop as it depends on the weather. In all about 14 million tons of grain is expected in Hungary, with 5,3 million tons of autumn wheat in it. Because of the rich crop the Ministry of Agriculture has turned to the European Union with the request to permit the export of at least 1 million tons of grain to third countries.
