FIRST LIST OF UNSPECIFIED LANDS IN UPPER HUNGARY

One can read the list of unspecified lands on the internet website of Szabad Újság in Slovakia (www.hhrf.org/szabadujsag) since yesterday – the list contains almost 22 thousand names, the owners of unspecified lands in Rimaszombat county.

The weekly magazine managed to make a contract with the Slovakian Office of Cartography, Cadaster, and Surveyors to publish the list of landowners who have not registered so far. According to the land law of 1995 if the owners of unspecified lands to not announce their demand until September 1, 2005, their property will be inherited by the local self-government. The law can affect several thousand Hungarian landowners who (or their relatives) possessed lands in Slovakia which have never been nationalized and which are not listed in the land registry by name.
