Ferenc Wekler MP (Alliance of Free Democrats), Deputy Speaker of Parliament has been in a more and more difficult position because of his lands subsidized by the state with almost HUF 300 million just after the change of government. There was a serious debate about Wekler’s affairs in the session of the party’s governing committee yesterday and there was a motion to have Mr Wekler resign from his parliamentary post. According to certain well-informed sources Ferenc Wekler has lost the confidence of Gábor Kuncze, chairman of the party, too. Tamás Bauer and Péter Gusztos wish to convene the national council of the Free Democrats to make clear the standpoint of the party in the case of Wekler and Mayor Demszky though the latter has expressed his opinion he committed a serious mistake when he bought a villa in Croatia and rented a jeep from a company of the city of Budapest. Gábor Kuncze said he found useless to convene an emergency session of the national council while Ildikó Lendvai, faction leader of the Socialists said in the public television yesterday the Wekler case was harmful both to the MP in question and to the parliament.
