He said the former law prepared by his predecessor, Péter Bárándy, had to be repealed because it would not stand a constitutional test. The general discussion of the bill in parliament showed the weaknesses of the law, even the factions were divided in the question. The institution of stay away order serves the protection of families menaced by violence. Mr Petrétei expressed his opinion that in spite of the standpoint of certain NGOs it was impossible to introduce measures in Hungary which were alien to the Hungarian order of law and customs. He claims the solution of the problem needs a social educational and information programme in the long run and the cooperation of the work of several ministries.
