According to the documents and letters sent to Magyar Nemzet the two ministries have a common brainstorming to find more methods of reducing costs. They want to grant that the state should not pay more than the HUF 284 billion planned for this year to subsidize medicines. This budget will not cover the necessary expenses without extraordinary measures. In the first two months of this year the Hungarian health insurance paid HUF 53,2 billion for subsidies, by 28,4 pc more than in the similar period of 2004. Jenő Rácz, Minister of Health claims there is no government decision in the case but he has recognized the fact there have been talks about the reduction of costs. If doctors prescribe more medicines this year than it is expected, a part of the additional burdens must be taken by the medicine producers according to a contract concluded with them last year.
