The State Property Management wants to cancel the real estate of Várkert Bazár in Buda from the list of historic buildings not for sale, Magyar Nemzet has been informed. The government probably wants to accelerate the sale of a very valuable part of Budapest and Hungary, possibly in this government cycle. The most critical point in the process can be the possibility that the real estate in Buda Castle, built by Miklós Ybl, can change owners and any private company can have a right for its use for even sixty plus thirty years. The conception of utilizing Várkert Bazár was born in 1999 in a government decision to find private investors for a multifunctional centre for different programmes. The tender in 2001 proved unsuccessful but in 2002 it was decided to conclude a contract with Foundation Ltd which undertook the task of renovating the whole complex of buildings once functioning as a Youth Park. It seems that there is already a subcontractor and the real estate can be a victim of speculation. In the land registry the lot number of the site of Várkert Bazár is equivalent with that of the Royal Castle – there is only a per sign between the two complexes of buildings.
