SLOWLY HEALING WOUNDS OF REFERENDUM

At the end of last year a piece of news caused great excitement: in the week preceding the referendum on dual citizenship half a thousand Hungarian pastors of the Reformed Church arrived from former Hungarian territories to perform guest services in the congregations.

Last Sunday they started to return the visit, and more than 500 pastors from Hungary have visited or are visiting reformed congregations in Upper Hungary, in Sub-Carpathia, in Transylvania, and in the Voivodina. Last Sunday Bishop Gusztáv Bölcskei, chairman of the Synod served in Kolozsvár.

The pastors read out the circular of the synod which says: ’The failure of the referendum means that even we have become minorities with our faith and our set of values’. Áron Csoma, spokesman of the synod said the return of the visits helped their brethren beyond the borders at least to carry the burden of the shock of the referendum on December.
