RAILWAY COMPANY TRANSPORT ON ROAD

The Hungarian Railway Company (MÁV) sends its company mail by hired Peugeot vans instead of trains, Magyar Nemzet has been informed. They explain it by the fact that the expenses of the repair of mailcoaches are spent to renovate passenger wagons.

The Company hires 16 vans for the experiment to simplify service mail delivery but later they want to use more modern technology in their informatical system. It would need some HUF 225 million to renovate 15 luggage vans, so they expend this money to renovate passenger carriages though this sum is enough only to buy a new carriage or renovate two or three old ones which is not a real change in comparison to the 2000 wagons in use by MÁV. The State Railway Company considers to liquidate its own company, Cargo Ltd, dealing with luggage transport. This decision is expected by mid-February.
