MUCH MONEY TURNS THE WHEEL OF TIME

The Time of Wheel, erected on the Square of Marches to mark the EU accession, will cost an annual HUF 7-10 million to turn it over – this turns out from the realization plan of the structure.

The permanent guarding of the sandglass will cost another HUF 3-4 million, keeping clean its premise takes another HUF 3-4 million, its operation and maintenance another HUF 3-5 million, while to build out and operate the office and computer network for it will cost also a yearly HUF 12-14 million. Summing up the costs the Wheel of Time will have an annual budget of HUF 28-37 million from which the Ministry of Economy and Transport has promised to pay HUF 20 million.

According to the data of the Prime Minister's’Office the wheel so far cost HUF 350 million, its erection has been supported by the government by HUF 240 million of the taxpayers' money. The diameter of the wheel is 8 meters, it weighs 60 tons. The sand in it weighs 7 tons and runs down in a year. The idea of the wheel emerged in 1982 to remember ’the greatest invention of mankind: time’.
