A proposal on the agenda of the European Parliament suggests the ban of the use of heavy metals like mercury. This has been announced recently by Stavros Dimas, commissioner of environment protection. Experts claim that heavy metals may accumulate in the lowest grades of the food chain, mainly in fish and oysters, and can cause serious harm if they get into the human body. Mercury can cause cancer, depression, but it can be connected with heart failures and with the formation of Alzheimer disease.
