’Everyone will have and can demand a share of the future’, former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said yesterday after the formation of the National Consultation Council. The body will be independent of party politics and one can find among its members Anna Jókai, György Schöpflin, and Imre Pozsgay. According to István Hiller, chairman of the Hungarian Socialist Party Viktor Orbán ’invented the Patriotic People’s Front’. The spokesperson of the Council is Júlia Kudlik, former TV anchor and the body includes József Finta, architect, Rózsa Hoffman, educator, László Iván, gerontologist, and Prof. László Náray-Szabó, chairman of the Batthyány Circle of Professors. The Council in its founding document says the political energy liberated at the change of regime has been squandered and the country is torn by fruitless fights and disputes so the Council wishes to give back hope for people and give them a chance to formulate a vision of their common future. Viktor Orbán emphasized that the body is open for all and the goal is to strengthen national unity.
