The right of association exists only in theory but some of the multies prevent the work of trade unions. At present several hundred employees work without any representation of their interests. The majority of more than 330 000 commmercial employees work for multinational companies. The major international firms are already here in Hungary and the Trade Union of Commercial Employees could appear mainly in companies with a big staff like Metro, Praktiker, and Tesco where collective contracts protect employees.
Mainly the French companies hinder the work of trade unions and according to József Sáling, president of the union the employees work much more than it is permitted by the law. Among the car manufacturers Suzuki keeps away trade unions while in Audi and Opel factories the employees are protected by trade unions.
