Families with one or two children may be better off but the difference is about one or two thousand forints. The family benefit system will be transformed from January. All forms of benefits will be collected and from this sum they will raise the family benefit for everyone but the child protection allowance and the family allowance for the 13th month will be cancelled. The option of tax reduction will remain only in the case of families with three or more children with a lower ceiling and only up to a given level of income. Many were surprised when Premier Gyurcsány announced this on Monday as earlier he had spoken about a more just sort of benefit system which helped the needy. János Kóka, Minister of Economy in April said it was necessary to help people with a lower income and said it was absurd that he also received a family benefit which was ’a stupid and unjust thing’.
