HEBC emphasizes the importance of a consistent economic policy spanning government cycles with the urgent reform of state administration, taxation, and health service. The time factor is critical because ’the possibilities will not remain open for a long time’, as Miklós Pécsi-Szabó, chairman of HEBC and managing director of OMV Hungária put it ’though the country is still in the position to regain its best place’.
Miklós Pécsi-Szabó emphasized the necessity of a reform in the fields of education, health, the pension system, the policy of science and technology, and mentioned the problems of corruption, those of the integration of the Gypsies, and the improvement of the image of Hungary to be achieved by a minimal consensus of the political parties. The report underlines that it is still not late to make Hungary a regional centre because the quality of labour is high and the geographical position of the country is favourable but it is an imminent danger that multinational companies take their investments and production to China. The leading businessmen claim the introduction of the euro should not be delayed because it could place Hungary to the periphery of development. (Világgazdaság)
