According to educational ombudsman Lajos Aáry-Tamás he is unable to accept the arguments of Gábor Szabó, rector of the University in Szeged and he maintains his earlier standpoint that the Budapest Media Institute obliged its students illegally to pay tuition fees.
The ombudsman said the law did not permit any further steps on his part: the University would have to convince its own students about the correctness of taking fees. If they will not be convinced, they may sue the university. The Union of the Self-governments of Students will discuss the problem next week. The rector of the university claimed they had collected legally extra fees from students in courses subsidized by the state.
