KUPPER: MAYOR DEMSZKY COLLECTED ILLEGALLY ALMOST TWO MILLION FORINTS

According to András Kupper, faction leader of Fidesz in the self-government of Budapest Mayor Gábor Demszky has redeemed his paid holidays illegally.

Mayor Demszky collected HUF 1 800 000 at the end of 2002 with the explanation that his term as a mayor was over. Mr Kupper said it was contradictory that the mayor of the ’luxury left’ was spending his time in his resort house in Croatia while he claimed he was not on leave. In Mayor Demszy’s statement of property this sum is mentionedf as spent to repay a family loan. The Free Democrats refuse the allegations of András Kupper referring to the constitution and the law concerning the legal status of mayors which says that a mayor’s term of office ends even if he is re-elected later.
