LOCATING TORMENTS OF SOUL’?

Attila Péterfalvi, ombudsman of data protection has called on the Church of Scientology in Hungary to stop its illegitimate data handling, Magyar Nemzet has been informed. The Church of Scientology applies a device ’to locate the torments of the soul’ which has a ghastly similarity to a lie-detector.

There have been several complaints lodged with the ombudsman’s office. The citizens complained about the use of a so-called E-meter and that of a questionnaire which inquired about sexual perversions and about the names of sexual partners. There is another examination in process made by the deputy of the ombudsman, Albert Takács, to make sure how the church respects human dignity. Psychiatrist András Veér, who is the author of three books on the Church of Scientology said it was high time to deprive the church of the possibility of blackmailing and exploiting people, menacing their health and the chance of their recovery. Lajos Fritzlauf, leading monk of the Church of Scientology in Hungary said to Magyar Nemzet they did not know about any examination and claimed the E-meter was not a lie-detector and it served only the purpose of ’locating the spiritual torments’ of the believers. He also said only the monks had been asked ’delicate questions’.
