The Fejér County Court has acquitted journalist Imre M. Szabó, the verdict is non-appealable. The suit had been filed by János Cserni, judge of the Metropolitan Criminal Court for slander. The verdict says the journalist expressed his opinion when he referred to the judge and the value judgment was attached only to the work of the judge and not to his person. The allegedly slanderous statement was made by the journalist in a programme of Hír TV referring to ’some judges who carry out party directives’. Barnabás Futó, lawyer of Imre M. Szabó said the verdict was in compliance with the Constitution and with the norms of the European Union. Katalin Kondor, former president of the Hungarian Radio has won her suit against the weekly Élet és Irodalom. The non-appealable verdict of the Metropolitan Court of Appeals ruled that Mária Vásárhelyi told untruth when she claimed the lawsuits of Ms Kondor had cost several tens of millions of forints to the public radio and the left-wing weekly claimed fraudulently that the Broadcasting Authority (ORTT) passed resolutions which condemned the whole work of the public radio.
