The government is launching a consultative vote on Ukraine’s EU membership, Tamas Menczer announced in a video posted on his social media. The communications director of the Fidesz–Chritian Democrat (KDNP) party alliance pointed out that the accession requires unanimous approval from all member states, emphasizing: “our vote will be decisive.”
Ukraine’s EU membership comes with serious risks, and these must be carefully considered,
– the communications chief stressed. He then pointed out that if Ukraine is admitted into the EU, Hungarian farmers will lose their rightful EU funding—“Hungarian farmers’ money will go to Ukraine
We would also lose all the other EU funds that we're entitled to—every cent would be redirected to Ukraine,
– Mr. Menczer added, noting that, on top of this, Hungary would be expected - indeed, demanded - to contribute additional hundreds of billions of forints.
So Hungarians’ money would be funneled to Ukraine,
– he summed up.
“Let’s not forget that the Tisza Party has already made its decision. Under orders from Manfred Weber, they put on their own jerseys - not Hungary’s red-white-green, but Ukraine’s blue and yellow,” Mr. Menczer highligted. He added that those who don the Ukrainian jersey are with Ukraine, effectively declaring: “everything for Ukraine, all in for Ukraine.”
“Let us decide our own fate and the fate of our own money - Hungarians' money. Let’s make our voices heard, and the consultative vote is an excellent opportunity to do so,” the communications director stated.
