FABULOUS SALARIES IN THE LOSS-MAKING HUNGARIAN STATE RAILWAYS (MÁV)

The leaders of the representative railway trade unions receive a monthly basic salary of HUF 800 000 while engine-drivers get less than HUF 150 000. The deputy general directors are paid a basic salary of HUF 1,2 million monthly. The deficit of the State Railways Company will be HUF 34 billion this year.

While the engine-drivers can get a maximal HUF 150 000 monthly including compensations and extra hours, the leaders of the representative trade unions receive a minimal salary of HUF 800 000. The five trade union leaders can use their mobile phones without limitations and in principle they get a bonus of 80 pc of their annual income though there is no money for that. Their salaries cost MÁV an annual sum of at least HUF 325 million. A similar bounty is the reward of the MÁV top management with company cars and life insurances worth an annual HUF 100 million. In the light of this it seems interesting that MÁV liquidated its company kindergartens to save HUF 100 million.The state company takes new loans each year and the standard of its services is deteriorating.
