LEFTIST HOUSE OF TERROR?

Left-wing historians, public personalities and Socialist politicians urge on more and more forums the creation of the antifascist museum. Some of them say that it is necessary to take the opportunity of the Socialist government to bring about an institution similar to the House of Terror Museum but with totally opposite message.

Some others claim the museum is important because the creditable presentation of the 20. century needs not only the House of Terror and the Holocaust Museum but a separate antifascist museum as well. During a talk with antifascist associations Prime Minister Medgyessy has promised government support and on the session of the committee of the Hungarian Socialist Party István Hiller, deputy chairman and Minister of Culture said the idea was worth considering.

The Association of Hungarian Resistance Fighters and Antifascists (MEASZ) is a significant pressure group as its co-chairman is Iván Vitányi, one of the chief ideologists of the Socialists, and chairman of the Social Democratic platform.
