There is a new fight in the spheres of the Hungarian Socialist Party. According to sources from the Socialist faction the object of the struggle of interests is a vanished sum of HUF several billions paid by the state to a mysterious off-shore company registered in Cyprus. The basis of the payment was a contract signed by Péter Medgyessy in 1996 without the approval of experts. The contract was full of unfavourable conditions for the Hungarian state and at that time the administrative state secretary of the Ministry of Finance was Tibor Draskovics, now Minister of Finance. The company stopped working during the Orbán government but filed a suit against the Hungarian state for damages. The question of responsibility for the serious loss raises other questions, too. The Hungarian state will be represented by Köves & Co Lawyer’s Office.
