The government ordered cigars for HUF 60 000 for its last cabinet dinner at the end of the last year. The whole banquet cost more of the taxpayers’ money than the bill of the memorable feast at Söjtör, Ferenc Deák’s birthplace. The festive banquet took place at the educational centre of the Customs and Excise Office, there were altogether 75 people present, including Premier Medgyessy, and the final bill was HUF 870 000, surpassing the sum of HUF 735 000 at Söjtör where according to Zoltán Gál J. government spokesman there were ’less than 100 people’. After the menu of the luxury meal had become public, Foreign Minister Kovács begged the pardon of the voters.
