ORTT does not intend to sanction news programmes which violate the law of equal treatment of political parties, said Éva Vékony spokesperson. Between May 10 and 30 the Socialist politicians were mentioned 919 times, those of Fidesz 637 times, the Free Democrats 289 times, the Hungarian Democratic Forum had only 221 occasions. Since then the recent surveys of ORTT have produced similar results: until June 3 the Socialists had 135 mentions, Fidesz had 94 occasions, Free Democarts had 32, Democratic Forum had 22 occasions in news programmes. The most unbalanced programme is the noon news programme of the Hungarian (Public) Television, and the news block of Sláger Rádió where Socialists have three times as many occasions than those of Fidesz. The most balanced programmes are those of Hír TV and the evening news of TV 2 called Tények (’Facts’). Before the 2002 elections the governing parties had a greater chance to propagate their views but between the two election rounds the opposition parties (then the Socialists and Free Democrats) tipped the scales in their favour.
