Socialist politicians have allegedly tried to persuade mayors to commission selected contractors to employ them for public utility developments. According to the report filed with the police Imre Huszka, former deputy chairman of the Socialist Party in the country had referred to Mrs Katalin Lévai Juhász MP, chairwoman of the county assembly when he tried to persuade mayors to use the services of contractors recommended by him. Imre Huszka denied the charges, even the knowledge about such a report and investigation, saying it was customary with the Hungarian Socialists to defame inner rivals by leaked out informations and anonymous reports. He said it was probably György Pántya, a hotel owner in Hajdúszoboszló who stood behind the report but Mr Pántya refused this, though he recognized he had chaired the ethical committee which expelled Imre Huszka from the party.
