Péter Medgyessy refuted the rumours of a government crisis and said no other minister offered his resignation except Ferenc Gyurcsány. The Prime Minister will decide about Gyurcsány’s dismissal at the end of August as the sports minister now has to concentrate on the Olympic Games. The Premier has announced that Péter Gergényi will be the new national police chief. Mr Medgyessy had a three hour long talk with cabinet members and leaders of the Socialist Party. The Premier said he would have a talk with Péter Bárándy about the reforms in jurisdiction but the minister has to understand there are budget limitations.
