Yesterday it turned out that the consortium winning the tender had a member which was involved in the corruption scandal of the German Social Democratic Party. The corruption case became notorious as the scandal of Cologne and the police investigation revealed that the party accepted illegal donations from different companies winning state commissions. Among the companies one can find Bilfinger Berger, which is a member of the consortium winning the tender for M6 motorway. The money was transferred to a Swiss bank account first and the German Social Democrats received the sum from there without registering it in the books of the party. Premier Medgyessy early in August ordered István Csillag, Minister of Economy and Transport to revise the decision but the Free Democrat minister announced the result of the tender – this led to the fall of the Medgyessy government. According to Magyar Nemzet sources the Prime Minister had also contacted the National Security Service in the case to know more about the consortium winning the tender.
