Both government and opposition politicians condemn the squandering in State Privatization and Property Management Company (ÁPV Rt) revealed by Magyar Nemzet. Apart from the raise of basic salaries by 18 pc other personal allowances have been doubled within a year, reaching HUF 846,999 million in 2003 while in the previous year this sum was only HUF 371,242 million and premiums have been increased by 73 pc. László Molnár MP (Hungarian Socialist Party) said such luxury allowances could not be permissible in a state owned company. ’ÁPV Rt has been working for ten years and the state property has been almost fully sold. The organization should be liquidated and it should be understood that property management could not be maintained in this way’. János Halász MP (Fidesz) said this practice was not acceptable but it showed the Pharisaic attitude of the Medgyessy government which was always preaching about a cheap state while one of its first steps was to raise the salaries of ministers by 100 pc.’
