The scandal about the construction of the new section of the M6 motorway is swelling. The scandal had a decisive role in the worsening of the relationship between Premier Medgyessy and István Csillag, Minister of Economy and Transport which finally led to the fall of the Prime Minister. According to documents in the possession of Magyar Nemzet the members of the tender- winning consortium M6DA had been involved in affairs which showed the signs of corruption in construction works in Austria and Germany. According to the minutes of the Austrian paliament (March 14, 1996) Porr GmbH was accused of corruption and collusion with the Social Democratic Party while the other member of the consortium, Bilfinger-Berger GmbH is prosecuted in Germany for corruption. In a television interview on Sunday the outgoing Premier hinted at the affairs of corruption of the Free Democrats. The sudden fall of the Premier may be connected with this issue, and Ibolya Dávid, chairperson of the Hungarian Democratic Forum in her communiqué yesterday expressed her wish to know the truth behind this complicated game.
