ONE THOUSAND BARRELS OF HAZARDOUS MATERIAL IN ÚJPEST

There are about one thousand barrels of hazardous material stored in the city of Budapest, in the immediate neighbourhood of Baumax store in Váci road, on the premises of Budalakk Paint Factory in the open air.

The company is being liquidated. The material can explode any moment, some of the drums show the signs of the effect of developing gases. Some drums are open but the hazardous material is evaporating from them freely. The environment authority has sent its decision to the company and to the liquidating Reorg Holding about the clearing of the site but this operation would cost HUF 100 million and no one wants to pay it. According to Tamás Derce, Mayor of Újpest at least eleven different hazardous materials are there in the barrels which may cause serious illnesses like paralysis.
