QUARTER OF PROMISES TO BE KEPT

Optimistic prediction: 207 km motorway will be built by 2006. Instead of the 800 km motorway promised in the 2002 election campaign by the Socialists about 200 km can be built in this government cycle.

A 42 km motorway section will be opened in mid-September, this is the first instalment of the promises of the Medgyessy government. If things go according to the plans, together with this section 207 km long motorway will be built until the end of 2006. Premier Medgyessy had an election promise for 800 km while in the motorway law there is 420 km mentioned to be built by the end of 2006. So far there have been sections of M3, M30, and M9, and the bridge at Szekszárd inaugurated but these constructions had been started by the Orbán government.
