Premier Medgyessy may leave his post next spring, Magyar Nemzet has been informed. There is a decisive opinion in the Socialist party that the election in 2006 can be successful only with Katalin Szili as party chairperson and with Péter Kiss as Prime Minister. The committee preparing the nomination of candidates for chairmanship will probably carry on consultations with the candidates on September 3 and they will decide on October 5 who can be nominated officially for the post. According to leading Socialist politicians Premier Medgyessy can leave next spring as the earliest date and his successor could be Péter Kiss.
This solution would be accepted by Free Democrats, too. Medgyessy could leave either by a resignation or by a parliamentary motion of no confidence. Medgyessy’s resignation would be unlucky before the budget debates and Hungarian economy must show some development before Péter Kiss takes over the post.
