Premier Gyurcsány has nominated András Bozóki, politologist as Minister of Culture. Mr Bozóki has been an adviser of the Prime Minister and the Premier presented him as a ’fantastic man’, mentioning the fact that Mr Bozóki was the member of Fidesz at the time of the change of the regime and was the founding editor-in-chief of the liberal weekly Magyar Narancs. The Premier said the presidium supported the candidate unanimously though some sources claim there were critical voices as they feel the Ministry went to the Free Democrats by this decision. András Bozóki said there would be a new era for Hungarian culture in the European Union and he found it necessary to unify cultural camps and highbrow and country cultural trends. Ildikó Lendvai, faction leader of the Socialist Party denied the fact that Mr Bozóki was a member of the Alliance of Free Democrats while János Halász, spokesman of the Fidesz faction said the Ministry of Culture lately became a passage-way of too many people.
