GYURCSÁNY CAUSES DIPLOMATIC SCANDAL

Premier Gyurcsány’s remark made at the end of the week about ’Arab terrorists’, referring to the Saudi national eleven, caused a diplomatic scandal and the ambassador of Saudi Arabia sent a memorandum to protest against the invective.

The Prime Minister apologized for the joke but said the remark had been made in a humorous context and it was a sign of political intolerance, over-sensitiveness or perhaps even malice to misunderstand it. The ambassador of Lebanon who represents all the ambassadors of Arab countries accredited in Budapest said they did not issue any declaration yet while the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry said there was just one telephone call and life was going on. The announcement of the sports section of Fidesz criticized the Premier for his almost customary talk of nonsense causing a diplomatic scandal.
