Leading Socialist politicians claim that yesterday’s decision of the Free Democrats to boycott the presidential election will rearrange the coalition partnership. There will be two candidates for the post of the President of the Republic, Katalin Szili, Speaker (Hungarian Socialist Party), and László Sólyom, former chairman of the Constitutional Court, candidate of Fidesz and the Hungarian Democratic Forum. János Áder, faction leader of Fidesz announced yesterday that his faction supported Mr Sólyom unanimously. The recommendation of the candidate has been signed by 70 MPs of Fidesz.
