Earlier there were several negative statements issued about the standpoint of the Roman Catholic Church concerning the integration of disadvantaged children. Bishop Veres, secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference said the anti-church liberal series of attacks started last autumn was continuing and Socialist politicians took part in these attacks, too. ’This is not an educational debate, this is an ideological and political attack’, he said. He mentioned Bálint Magyar, Minister of Education, Lajos Korózs, state secretary of youth and equality of opportunities, and László Donáth MP (Hungarian Socialist Party) by name. ’It is not the Catholic Church that wants any segregation but the Minister of Education which has achieved outstanding results in underfinancing Catholic schools’, the bishop said.
